Heskiya Kaneti House

- Aleksandrovska Street 4 -
The construction of the commercial building, which was built for the merchant Heskiya Kaneti, was carried out in two stages by a project of the architect Spiros Valsamaki. The first floor was built in 1870 and later in 1888, the second floor was added. The shops on the first floor are used by the famous companies of the Kiselov brothers and the Baklov brothers, representatives of the German company called Gritsner, for bicycles and sewing machines. On the first floor, there was a flannel workshop called Pisants and Sons.

In 1890, Heskiya Kaneti bought the Haberman brewery, which later in 1903 fused into the -Ruse brewery. At the end of the 19th century, the Kaneti family participated in many of the major economic projects in Ruse. Heskiya was the founder of the Jewish Bank in Ruse, the charity that aims to raise funds for students in the Jewish school. His wife Hannah Isaac Kaneti, donated a plot of land to the charity on which the Jewish library built its building. After the death of Heskiya Kaneti, the building was bought by Solomon Meyer, a shareholder in AD Sapun, and the Deputy Consul of England in Ruse in 1908. Over the years the appearance of the building has completely changed, preserving only the facade of the main street.
