Franz Bauer House

The construction of the residential and commercial building began in 1880 and was completed in 1893. It was designed by the Viennese architect Ludwig Meyer, who worked for a short time in Ruse. It was built for the Austrian pharmacist and photographer Franz Bauer, with the purpose to use it as a pharmacy, medicine warehouse, and workshop.

Before arriving in Ruse, Bauer worked in and Porgevo. Old advertisements show that he has opened a permanent studio on Alexandrovska Street with three separate halls, for groups, single, and children's photographs. , , Baba , , and many other personalities of the city stand in front of his lens. He later opened a studio in , and in Ruse, his successor Samuel Gelch became another famous photographer.

Above the main entrance door of the Neo-Classical building, you can admire a , which contains a decorative shell and a sculpture of a young male. If you look a bit further up you'll be able to see a cartouche with the initials F.B., which is surrounded by laurel twigs. Above it, you can see a broken pointed , which interrupts the roof . Above the windows, you'll see two more pointed pediments, which are adorned with a . One of the cartouches contains a mascaron of the Greek god and the other one of the Greek god .
