Hadjiangelov Family House

The residential building, which was built around 1910 was built for the Hadjiangelov Family. The Bulgarian doctor, university lecturer, and public figure Maria Dayrova Hadjiangelova lived in the building.

She was born in in 1876. In 1892 she graduated from the Girls' High School in her hometown with excellent results. She was accepted in 1894 to study medicine in , Switzerland, and in 1899 graduated in , France. After returning to her hometown, she opened a private clinic and married her fellow citizen, the lawyer, and doctor Petko Hadjiangelov. Together they had two daughters, but misfortune befell them, in 1906 her husband died.

After 1906, she was a school doctor at the First Girls' High School in Sofia. In 1911 she specialized in children's and internal medicine in , and in 1920, in internal medicine and school hygiene in . During the wars, she provided free medical care in orphanages and prisoner of war camps. In the period between 1915 and 1919, she was the editor of the newspaper "Female Voice", a body of the Bulgarian Women's Union. Between 1919 and 1920 she was appointed Chief Inspector-Physician at the Ministry of National Education where she was responsible for the school doctors.

After 1918, for 15 years, she was an assistant professor of histology and embryology at the Medical Faculty of the Sofia University and gave courses at the Samaritan Society. In 1937 she published a textbook on hygiene. After retiring, she taught hygiene at the Knitting School and the Mechanical and Technical School. She is a member of the Pathological and Anatomical Society. She was awarded the Order of Civil Merit - Women's Cross, the Red Cross Medal, and the Badge of Honor of the Sofia Municipality. She died in 1943 in Sofia.

One of the corners of the Art Nouveau building is marked with an , which is supported by wooden . A triangular-shaped wooden balcony railing is attached to it. On top of the oriel window, there is a tower-like hip roof, which is crowned with .

The gable on the western side of the building has a circle-shaped top, with a shell ornament in the middle of it. The attic window is surrounded by decorative plastered branches. On the second floor, the is also flanked by ornamental branches, as well as decorative . Both windows are crowned with different types of pediments. The first floor window, directly below the pediment, is decorated with floral ornaments and has a shield in the middle it. In the fragment underneath the window, you'll be able to see a . The same decorations can be found on the southern facade, only, in this case, the festoon is located under the window on the second floor.

One of the entrances is located on the south side of the building and is covered by a beautiful wooden , with a small covered balcony on top of it. The stairs to this entrance are secured with a wrought iron railing. On the north side, there's another entrance, which is covered by an .
