Yordan Kostov House

The residential building is built in 1910 and was designed accoding to a project of the Italian architect . It was built for Yordan Kostov, a representative of the Russian steamship agency and father of the Bulgarian doctor Petko Kostov. Petko was born in Burgas and graduated from high school in his hometown, after which he worked for two years at a logging site in Strandzha and with the saved money went to study medicine in . After a year, he transferred to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of . He graduated in 1929 and for two years specialized in Pediatrics at the University Clinic, where he was offered an assistant position, which he refused.

In 1930, he married the Austrian Rosa Schöpf and in 1932 he returned with his Austrian wife to Burgas to help his fellow citizens. He continues to do so even after the coup of and his wife does not stop arranging parties for the children in the yard of their house. He was also known for his compassion and humanity toward his young patients. He often visited sick children in poor neighborhoods where he encountered the poverty and misery of the people there. He did not take any money for his visits but bought medicines for them with his own funds.

The roof overhang of the building, which is built in the style of Art Nouveau, is supported by wooden . The building is richly decorated with geometric and floral ornamentation, as well as that can be seen in many places around the entire building. The corner of the building features two , which are inscribed with the initials K.O. Here you will also see a balcony that's secured with a cast and wrought iron railing, which features some ornamentation. Underneath the balcony, you'll be able to see a mushroom shaped window, which is a common feature of the Art Nouveau style.
