Plovdiv Central Railway Station

The construction of the current railway station took place between 1905 and 1908 and was built by a design that was created by the Italian architect . It was built on the site of the first-ever railway station in Plovdiv, which was built in 1873 by a design of the Turkish architect . The bricks were donated by the brickyard of Plovdiv industrialist . On September 26, 1908, Tsar arrived in the city in connection with the declared of Bulgaria and was welcomed at the still-unopened railway station.

The official opening of the newly built railway station took place on November 30, 1908. In 1912, Tsaritsa was at the railway station in Plovdiv on the occasion of the consecration of the flags of the Macedonian-Odrina Militia. In November 1920, the poet and writer arrived in the city by train at the Plovdiv Railway Station for the celebration of his 50th creative anniversary.

On August 30, 1984, the station became the site of a terrorist attack. A bomb that was hidden in a trash can, which exploded in the waiting room of the station. As a result of this act, a 50-year-old woman from was killed and 42 other people were injured. A modest commemorative plaque has been placed at the site of the blast. In 2015, the complete reconstruction of the building and the space in front of the station began with the utmost care and respect for the original look.

The parts underneath two of these roofs contain multiple fragments that are adorned with geometric and floral ornamentation. The cornice that stretches around the entire building, is embellished with two strips of in different shapes and sizes. The parts that are located between the second floor windows are either adorned with or foliage. Huge are placed on top of the first floor windows, which are supported with corbels, some of which are even more lavishly decorated than the others.
