Former Austro-Hungarian Consulate

The construction of the two-story building, which was built for residential and administrative purposes, was completed in 1885, the year of the of Bulgaria. It was occupied by representatives of the Austro-Hungarian Consulate, the successor of the Austrian consulate, which was opened in Plovdiv in 1856 as a consular agency. From 1856 until 1865, Antonio Berti was the vice-consul, and five years later, in 1870, the Austro-Hungarian Consulate opened its doors. During that time, the consulate was managed by Baron Heinrich Caliche, who continued its activities until 1918. In 1924, the Austrian Honorary Consulate was run by the honorary Consul Ivan Balabanov. The consular affairs were suspended in March 1938, after the of Austria to the German Reich.

The attic of the Neo-Renaissance building features various dormers, of which the two larger ones are lavishly decorated ornamentation. The ornamentation consists of a , two globes, and garlands. The that are part of the are crowned with a Corinthian , which is embellished with a . The that devide the attic from the rest of the building, which runs around the entire building, are adorned with .

The , which are placed above the second floor windows, are adorned with even more dentils. The straight pediments are decorated with an ornament consisting of and a , and the broken segmental pediments with a decorative vase. The pilasters, which are located on the second floor, are either topped with a or an Ionic capital. The balcony, which is supported by four , adorned with volutes and foliage, is secured with a stone balustrade that contains the same as the .

A is placed above each of the first floor windows, which are decorated with the technique of . The entrance that's located on the southwestern side of the building, is covered by a wrought iron .
