Kosta Stoychev House

- Otets Paisiy Street 41 -
The construction of the residential and commercial building started in 1911 and was completed in 1912. The design came from the hand of the Bulgarian architect , and the construction was commissioned by Kosta Stoychev. In 1913, his establishment, the First Brewery opened its doors in the building and immediately surpassed the competition. It offered a superb grill, brought fresh beer all the way from Shumen every week, and the service was like in a restaurant. The Plovdiv intelligentsia was the first to appreciate the merits of the new establishment and turned it into their club from the very beginning. They often gathered there after premieres, concerts, exhibition openings, or gatherings on cultural issues.

The success lasted only a few years, as mobilization began and a large part of the men left for the front. On this occasion, the owner was forced to close the establishment. In 1936, the brewery started working again under the name Prošekovo Pivo. During socialism, it housed the Vegetarian Restaurant, which was a legendary place for the people of Plovdiv and a favorite stop of the artist .
