Nesho Chipev House

The residential and commercial building, which was built somewhere at the beginning of the 20th century, was constructed for the Bulgarian pharmacist Nesho Chipev. He was born on October 17, 1882, in Plovdiv, where in 1899 he graduated from the State Boys' High School. The following year, he left to study medicine in the Austro-Hungarian city of . At the end of 1904, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine at the Imperial and Royal University in Graz, and in 1905 he moved back to his native Plovdiv.

On March 26, 1905, his diploma was legalized in Bulgaria and after successfully passing the practical and theoretical exams required by law, he started to practice as an independent doctor. In September 1908, he was appointed the position of city doctor of Plovdiv by the newly elected mayor of the city, . At the beginning of 1911, he was sent for a six-month training in , and after his return to Plovdiv, the first city Bacteriological Laboratory opened its doors. During the , he was appointed head of a laboratory, whose main task was to early diagnose infectious diseases in the army.

In 1919, after the end of the war, he went to , where he specialized in gynecology and skin-venereal diseases. In that same year, he married the promising mezzo-soprano of the Royal Opera, Martha Jursfeld, who was born in 1893 in . She was the first opera singer to perform works by on the Plovdiv music stage. In 1928, together with their three children Doncho, Heinrich, and Anan, they moved to . In late 1944, he was arrested and imprisoned for five months on the grounds of so-called fascist activities, which was based on the fact that he was married to a German woman, that his older son was a political refugee, that his younger son was an officer in the Bulgarian Royal Army, and that his daughter works in a German company. He was released thanks to collegial advocacy but meanwhile became terminally ill with cancer and died on September 9, 1954, in Sofia.

In the central part of the symmetrical eastern facade of the building, which is built in the Eclectic style, you can see a huge that stretches from the second floor all the way up to the third floor. The oriel window is supported by two that resemble a dragon and is flanked by four balconies and topped with another balcony. The balconies are secured with a cast iron railing that's adorned with geometric forms. Four of the balconies are supported by three in all shapes and sizes. The building is decorated with three vertical motifs and one wavy motif, which is placed on the that separates the third and the fourth floor.
