Yani Barekov House

The construction of the building, which housed a residential, as well as a commercial function, was completed in 1908. The construction was commissioned by Yani Barekov and the project for the design was assigned to the Bulgaria architect .

The first floor housed the commercial part of the building, which was in use by the Balkan Bank, which was established in 1906 with mainly French and Belgian capital. In 1924, during the years of the tobacco crisis, the Balkan Bank liquidated its foreign deposits and merged with the Franco-Belgian Bank.

The corner of the Art Nouveau building is topped with a scaly sheet hip roof, which is crowned with and a . The lead roof contains one dormer with a pretty unusual design, which is located next to the part that consists of two piers and a segmental . On this side, you can see loads of ornamental ferns, as well as two ornamental trees. The are embellished with garlands, which are connected to a . Underneath the second floor windows, you'll be able to see , which are connected by three medallions. The bands, which even continue to run around the bottoms of the two balconies, are lavishly decorated with floral ornamentation. On the southern side of the building, there's a plaque in memorial of the Bulgarian Renaissance writer, teacher, priest, and public figure, Nikola Belchov, who was hanged here by the Ottoman rulers on July 15, 1876.
