Rashko Chorapchiev House

The two-story building, which used to be built as a residential building, was turned into an educational building, as it became in use by the Dimitar Georgiev Gallery. Before that, the building was owned by bought by Georgi Kazasina who sold it to Chorbadji Salcho in the middle of the 19th century. It was inhabited by his daughter Haritina and his son-in-law Rashko Chorapchiev who moved into the building after their marriage in 1864. Rashko was born on October 6, 1834, in and started his studies in his hometown. Later he studied in the class diocesan school in Plovdiv under , and in the period between 1856 and 1861, he studied medicine in . In 1862, he was a volunteer in the First Bulgarian Legion in , where he met and . After returning to Plovdiv, he became the chief physician, where in 1865, he participated in the treatment of the population during the outbreak of cholera. He was one of the first to open a pharmacy in the city and created a laboratory with a microscope and reagents for research. He managed to release Vasil Levski after his imprisonment in Tashkapia. Receives and sends letters to committee members. He provided medical aid to many wounded insurgents during the . After the of Bulgaria, he opened the first Bulgarian hospital. He died on June 16, 1894, in Vienna, at the age of 59.

From May 20 to October 10, 1878, the house was the residence of the Provisional Russian Government headed by the Imperial Commissioner Prince .

The most distinctive features of the Revival building are the protruded and inserting parts all around the building, as well as the central . The oriel window, which contains a that's adorned with a , is supported by two . Under the bay window, you can admire beautiful floral paintings that are often used in Bulgarian Revival architecture. Above the wooden entrance door, which is beautifully decorated with ornamental lions sitting on oak twigs and glasses with ribbons attached to them, you can see a containing some beautiful windows.
