Shalom Aleichem Community Center

The construction of the cultural and educational building, which was built according to a design that came from the hand of the Bulgarian architect , was completed in 1923. The funds for the construction were provided by manufacturers, merchants, and doctors, including the Jewish Doctor Jacques Arav, and it was built to house the Jewish cultural center called BETEMA. In 1945, just after the end of the , the Jewish Community Center was re-established and was named after the Jewish writer Shalom Aleichem. Its purpose is to be a unifying center and unit for the cultural and educational events of the Jews in the city.

A string orchestra with a choir was created for the community center, which was led by Moni Lazarov. In 1954 a children's music school was established with director Milcho Petrov and conductor Andrey Georgiev. Its graduates later became prominent musicians both in Bulgaria and on the world stage. The language school also achieved great success. A lot of language courses are offered, both for children and adults. The teachers are the best in the city in their specialty.

A semi-circular is placed in the center of the building, which is built in the Eclectic style with some Neo-Baroque elements. On top of the building, you can see a stepped gable, as well as a that's supported by . The building features four , which are either adorned with a , or a fragment that contains and a . Another cartouche is placed between the second and third floor windows, which are all lavishly decorated with , a decorative shell, as well as two garlands. The building is richly decorated with all sorts of garlands, as well as all sorts of geometric forms. The two balconies, which are placed on each side of the oriel window, are both secured with a cast iron railing.
