Hristo Gendov House

The construction of the residential building, which was completed in 1884, was executed according to the design of the Czech–Bulgarian architect . The construction was ordered by the Bulgarian politician and entrepreneur, Baron von Gendovich, born as Hristo Gendov in 1848 in in the family of the local merchant Ivan Gendov. Hristo became a personal acquaintance of and was his courier and as such was captured and sent to the prison. However, he manages to escape from there with the help of friends and goes to . It was there that he became involved in the educational and political movement for the of Bulgaria and made a strong impression. At that time, because of his good Russian language and connections with Russia, he accompanied the Russian troops during the and helped them as a translator, serving mainly under General . For his courage, he was awarded the title of baron by the Russian Tsar . This was officially announced by Prince at a reception in Plovdiv. After the Liberation, he settled in the capital of Eastern Rumelia where his career as a prominent politician and public figure began, being actively involved in social and political affairs.

Later on, the building became the home of the Jewish doctor and physician Nissim Moscona.

On top of the building, which is built in the Neo-Renaissance style, you can see a strip of . The balcony that's placed above the main entrance door, which is flanked by two columns, is secured with a stone balustrade with simplified , which is once more flanked by two columns. A pointed can be admired above most of the second floor windows, while a straight pediment is placed above most of the first floor windows. The protruding that can be found at every corner give the building a nice feeling of depth. There's another balcony, which is located on the northern side of the building, which in this case is secured with a wrought iron railing containing loads of .
