Geo Milev Theater

The construction of the Old Theater, as it is often called by the people of Stara Zagora, began in 1912 and was completed in 1914. The emblematic building was built according to a project of the famous Bulgarian architect .

From 1870, in the earliest beginnings of theatrical activity in Stara Zagora under the direction of teacher , with the participation of and his orchestra, the first activities are undertaken. On April 18, 1870, the first theatrical performance was staged based on the comedy play by called Malakova and the premiere took place in the hall of the Main Girls' School. Since 1900, performances have been organized by the troupe of the Theater Company. In 1916, the poet experimentally staged the plays called Oedipus Tsar by Sophocles and Revisor by Gogol. In 1950 and 1954, the theater was nationalized twice. In 1970, by decree of the National Assembly, the theater was renamed the Drama Theater Geo Milev.

The main entrance of the building, which is built in the Neo-Baroque style, is located on the west side of the building. At the top, you can see a broken segmental , within its midst a richly decorated . The squares that contain a circle, as well as a strip of and a Greek key motif, run almost around the entire building. A bit underneath the cartouche, you'll be able to see an that states ДРАМАТИЧЕН ТЕАТЪР (Drama Theater). This epigraph is flanked by two lovely spectacles that show a garland wreath with on top of it a and two horns underneath it. Above the main entrance door, you can see a balcony that's secured with a stone balustrade that contains , and underneath it, you can see an ornament, which is adorned with three . A memorial plaque is placed on this same side, which is placed there in memory of the people that were sentenced to death and executed during the . On the southwestern corner, there's another entrance, with above it another beautifully decorated cartouche that on both sides flows into an elegant wavy pattern.

A semi-oval bay window is placed on the south side of the building, with a balcony on top of it. On this same side, as well as the northern side, you can see some that contain the same balusters as the two balcony balustrades. On top of both sides, you can see some cute little circular dormers. The that towers high above the building, features a on both sides.
