Former Popular Bank

- Tsar Simeon Veliki Boulevard 115 -
In 1923, the Popular Bank bought this plot of land, on which they built the administrative building. The construction started in 1925 and was completed after two years in 1927. The building was built according to the design of the Bulgarian architect Zhelyazko Rashev and was built with funds from the bank's members. After the liquidation of the bank, the building housed offices of various enterprises, as well as the Home of the Journalists. In the 1970s, there was a decision to demolish the building, just as the Union Bank building was demolished, to build the apartment block with shops, which in the end was not executed.

The symmetrical building, which is a mix of Art Deco and a modern architectural style, contains many geometric shapes. A clock is placed on the central top part, on the southern side of the building. A bit further down, you'll be able to see a that contains . The same counts for the two semi-circular that can be seen on both sides of the main facade that are supported by four each. On the east and west side of the building, you can see two more oriel windows, which are semi-hexagonal shaped, with a balcony on top of them that's secured with a wrought iron railing. The barred windows on the first floor are a remnant of the time when the building served as a bank.
