Grashevi Family House

The residential building was built in 1912 for the Bulgarian teacher and revolutionary, Raina Kanazireva and her second husband, the Bulgarian publicist, politician, and Major, Milan Grashev. Raina Kanazireva was born in 1882, in Mehomiya, nowadays , then in the Ottoman Empire, and is the daughter of Katerina Manushkina and the prominent public figure and revolutionary . She studies at the Bulgarian Girls' Grade School in and later on works there as a teacher.

At the end of 1896, the Mehomiya revolutionary committee was founded, which included the participation of two of her brothers. Together with her teacher Elena Kalaidzhieva, she sews the flag of the revolutionary committee in Razlog. After the suppression of the uprising, she fled to her brothers in . In 1906, she married the prominent member of the Supreme Macedonian-Adrianople Committee (), Captain , with whom she had a son, Ivan. Yurdan Stoyanov died in 1910 and later on, Raina Kanazireva married Milan Grashev, with whom she lives in Stara Zagora, and has two daughters, Zhivka and Zdravka.

Milan Spirov Grashev is a Bulgarian publicist and politician, who was born on March 2, 1880, in . He graduated from the Sofia University in law in 1905 and between, 1906 and 1908, he worked as a lawyer and judge in Sofia and . At the outbreak of the in 1912, he volunteered in the Macedonian-Odrina militia of the Bulgarian army and commanded the 4th company of the 8th Kosturi regiment. He also commanded a company from the Fourth Macedonian Infantry Regiment during the . On October 30, 1923, the Bulgarian journalist and politician, was murdered, and Milan Grashev was proposed by the parliamentary opposition as an investigator in the case with unlimited rights. On May 26, 1924, Milan himself got killed in Sofia, but the killers remain undiscovered, but they are assumed to be members of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization ().

The twin daughters of Milan and Raina, Zhivka and Zdravka kept on living in the building and became German teachers. During the renovation in 2017, the building regained its former shine and has been given a beautiful green color.

The building, which is built in the styles of Eclectic and Art Nouveau, features many square fragments with cut-out corners, which either contain a circle, the construction year 1912, the renovation year 2017, or the Cyrillic letters Р.К. (R.K.) and М.Г. (M.G.), the initials of the former owners. The building also features two balconies, both secured with a wrought iron railing and supported by two . The window frames of the windows that are located underneath the balconies are embellished with an ornament that resembles a peacock tail. The ornaments that are placed on the are either adorned with or a that's surrounded by ribbons and a . The multidimensional , that can be seen underneath the windows, are either decorated with two or ten guttae. The wrought iron gates and fences contain the same motif as the balcony railings. The metal piers that hold up the fences are decorated with foliage at the bottom. On top, you can see a pinecone, which has been a symbol of human enlightenment, resurrection, eternal life, and regeneration.
The building before the 2017 renovation
