Palace of Justice

The administrative building, which was initially intended to house the Municipal House, was constructed by a design of the Bulgarian architect Tsonev. The first plans to construct the building were made on September 14, 1905, on the initiative of Doctor , then mayor of the town of Shumen. Very soon, due to a lack of funds, the construction was frozen for a long time. After 25 years, on November 17, 1925, the Municipal House was finally opened to the public. In 1931, after the Municipality sold the building to the Ministry of Justice the building became in use as a Courthouse. After the coup of , 1944, the purpose of the building changed once more and housed the District Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party, and from 1977 it housed an art gallery. Since 1991 the building once again functions as a Courthouse.
The building during the construction
On top of the northern side of the symmetrical building, which is built in the Neo-Classical style, you can either see an open pointed or two open segmental . The round-shaped that stretch all the way up from the second until the third floor, are crowned with an Ionic . Some of the framed fragments that are placed between the second and third floor windows are embellished with a . A is placed underneath the second floor windows, which contain a total of nine . The main entrance is covered by an , which is supported by four columns that are crowned with a Doric capital. The that can be seen above the arcade states СЪДЕБНА ПАЛАТА (Palace of Justice).
