Marin Kutsarov House

The original residential building, which was later upgraded according to a design of the Czech engineer , was built somewhere at the end of the 19th century. It was built for the Bulgarian Major General Marin Todorov Kutsarov, who was born on July 29, 1873, in Shumen. He is the fifth of six children of the famous Todor Dimitrov Kutsarov, an orchestra player in the first Bulgarian orchestra. In 1893 he entered the Military School of His Princely Highness and graduated in 1895 and was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant. He served in the , the , as well as the .

An interesting moment in his military career was the rescue of the regimental flag of the 19th Shumen Regiment when it was captured after the breakthrough at Dobro Pole. The enemy demands that all armaments, including the battle flag, to be surrendered. On the evening of October 5, 1918, Kutsarov untied the flag from the handle with his own hands and tied it around his waist. During the next 9 months, while in captivity in Greece, the commander is alert, always sleeps alone, and does not communicate with other people. In May 1919, Kutsarov returned to Bulgaria and arrives in , where began to unbutton his jacket and in a moment the battle flag was placed on one of the officers' desks. An unimaginable euphoria sets in, spreading even beyond the walls of the headquarters. Before long, crowds of people flocked to meet him and personally thank him for his feat.

In 1928, Major General Marin Kutsarov married Mara Andreeva from Ruse, the daughter of a deputy from the Great National Assembly, with whom he had two children. After the coup on , 1944, although he was never involved in politics, he was arrested. After 38 days, he was released due to his bad health. On April 1, 1949, Major General Marin Todorov Kutsarov died in Shumen.

The crow-stepped gable of the Eclectic building is adorned with an unusual ornament and six curved . The fragments that are placed underneath the pointed roof , contain ornaments that resemble Ionic . A strip of is placed underneath the that's located on the second floor. The wrought iron railing that secured the balcony is embellished with . The wrought iron that support the balcony are adorned with . There's a plaque placed on the facade, which was placed there on June 5, 2012, that Major General Marin Todorov Kutsarov lived in this building.
