The two-story building, which was built with a residential and commercial function, was built in 1851 but gained its lavish ornamentation in a later period. The building was built on a plot where a building used to stand that suffered considerable damage during the in 1849. The project of 1851 was built according to the contract signed by the owner Jovan Polit with the builder Teodor Štef. The building belonged to the Polit-Desančić family, including the Serbian writer, political figure, and journalist, Mihajlo Polit-Desančić, who also lived there. He was born on April 16, 1833, in Novi Sad, and studied and graduated in jurisprudence in , and later, he obtained another degree in , this time in political science. He became a close collaborator of and, with him, one of the most important political figures of the Serbs of of the time. After the dissolution of Svetozar Miletić's party, he became a member of the Radical Popular Party, as well as a member of the People's Liberal Party, and the leader of the liberals of Vojvodina. Mihailo Polit-Desančić died on March 30, 1920, in , at an age of 86.

The frieze of the symmetrical Neo-Renaissance building contains a total of six . Either a segmental or a pointed is placed above the second floor windows, all of which are supported by two . There's a band placed between the second floor windows, which is embellished with a total of six .
