Novi Sad Synagogue

The construction of the religious building lasted from 1906 until 1909 and was executed according to a design that was created by the Hungarian architect of Jewish origin, . It became the fifth synagogue that was built in the history of Novi Sad and was built on the site of the fourth synagogue, which was built in 1826. The synagogue was part of a cluster of buildings, which also included a Jewish elementary school and a Jewish community building. During the occupation in the , Jews from Novi Sad were imprisoned in the synagogue and were then deported to concentration camps. The synagogue no longer serves its original purpose, but it hosts classical music concerts and plays.

The symmetrical Art Nouveau building features a total of three domes, of which the central one contains a lantern tower with a on top of it. The structure of the dome, which is supported by loads of , contains several . All kinds of geometric shapes are used in different shapes and sizes, with triangles and squares being common shapes. All of the windows are beautifully inlaid with windows, including the rose windows. The around these rose windows are lavishly embellished with foliage. Some of the entrances are covered with a porch, which is supported by columns that are crowned with Romanesque .
