Racho Dimchev House

Racho Dimchev's house is on the corner of Vrabcha and Dunav street. The building was built in 1914 and designed by architect .

Racho Dimchev was born in in 1838. He studied in the convent of the . At the age of 18, he took over the family business and he works as sales representative for the Dimchevi Brothers and lives and works in , , and . In 1887 he returned to Bulgaria and settled in and later in Sofia.

Racho Dimchev is a regular contributor to Lovech. Every year during the Christmas and Easter holidays he financially supported the poor people. He was a donor of the Lovech library "Nauka" in 1899 and 1905. In 1904 he provided a building for free, to use as a school premises for a fifth-grade school in Lovech.

The Bulgarian politician, journalist, and agricultural activist Spas Ivanov Duparinov also lived in this building. He was born on April 27, 1892, in the village of Cheshmadinovo, today the village of . Since 1908 he has been a member of the Bulgarian Agrarian Union. In 1913 he graduated in law with a doctorate and from 1918 to 1922 he was editor of the newspaper "Agricultural Flag". Between 1922 and 1923 he was Minister Plenipotentiary in Czechoslovakia. In 1923 he was appointed Minister of Justice and after the coup, he was tortured and sentenced to three and a half years in prison. He was killed near the village of Vakarel on November 10, 1923.

The building was built in the styles of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance. The richly decorated building has top gables on each side of the building that are identical. They all feature a beautiful gold-colored , a segmental , and a decorative vase on top of each of these pediments. Each pediment is supported by two , which include three . Just under the roof , a strip of is placed and underneath these dentils, a cornice can be seen that's decorated with floral ornamentation, which leads all around the building. In some places, the cornice is interrupted by two floral decorated corbels.

The outstanding decorated above the windows on the second floor have the same golden color as the cartouche in the top gables. The under each of the windows are decorated with . The three windows that are located in the center of the main facade are accompanied by four , are all crowned with an Ionic . The other windows on the first floor all have a pointed pediment on top of them, which are supported by two small decorative corbels. On the east side of the building, an stands out with underneath it two supportive cone-shaped corbels.

A , with on top of it a balcony, can be seen on the northeast corner of the building. The balcony is secured with a stone balustrade that contains . The supporting column, as well as the pilasters, are all crowned with an Ionic capital. The memorial plaque, which is located just to the left of the wrought iron entrance gate, states that Spas Ivanov Duparinov lived in this building.
