Hotel Nacional

The two-story building, which was built for residential purposes, was constructed in 1868 by a design of an unknown architect. It was built to house the People's Inn, which later became the Hotel Nacional, and belonged to the group named Kalemegdan Hotels that were built and opened after the cities were handed over to the Serbs in 1867. The hotel opened its door to its guests in 1869 with a cafe on the ground floor, while the sleeping rooms were upstairs. Throughout its long period of operation, many guests stayed here, including the writer spent the last years of his life there, and the politician , whose property it was from 1892 until his death in 1926.

The protruded part that's placed on top of the symmetrical eastern facade of the building, which is built in the styles of Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau, contains two decorative vases and a richly decorated . The underneath it is adorned with , which in their turn are decorated with foliage. The that are located on the second floor are embellished with a , while the ones on the first floor are embellished with another cartouche, as well as six . The first floor window frames contain even more guttae, but also two with an ornamental shell in their midst. A is placed underneath the second floor windows, while above these same windows, you can either see a straight or a curved containing another cartouche. All of these pediments are supported by two and in the midst of most of them you can see some floral ornamentation, including a . The that's placed above the main entrance door contains another cartouche.
