The current residential building was built in 1892 for the Rabbinate to house the Rabbi. The building that was located in that place was demolished due to the building of the Rabbinate, where the famous Austrian painter and decorator lived until his death in 1887. He bought the building in 1870 from the Jewish Hauser family. From 1889 until 1892, the house was owned by Eleonora Bettelheim, and since 1892 it has been owned by the Jewish community of Veliki Bečkerek, nowadays Zrenjanin. During the occupation in 1941, it was confiscated by the Germans, and in 1945 by the communist authorities.
