Vilmoš Herzfeld House

The original residential and commercial building was built in the 1830s for the merchant Jovan Pira and his family, who were of origin. At the beginning of the 19th century, the shops in the main street, the so-called bazaar, were almost all in the hands of Serb merchants. However, as time passed, there were more and more cases where not only shops but also the buildings themselves became the property of Jews. In 1897, the building was bought and reconstructed by the Jewish merchant Vilmoš Herzfeld, who had a shoe shop in the building.

The original building was built in the style of Neo-Classical, while after reconstruction the building also features some Eclectic influences. On top of the building, you can see five piers, all of which are crowned with a pyramid. Above the second floor windows, you can admire a pretty unusually shaped . An ornament consisting of a decorative shell and , as well as a that's adorned with foliage, is placed underneath the pediment.
