Lipot Goldschmidt House

- Kralja Aleksandra I Karađorđevića 22 -
In the 18th century, the residential and commercial building was inhabited by Stari Ilić and his family. Stari Ilić owned a shop that burned to the ground in a great fire in 1807, after which he built a new one in the same place. He had two twin sons, Pavle and Petar. Pavle Ilić was one of the first pharmacists in Zrenjanin, and his twin brother Petar was a doctor. In 1875, the building was owned by Petar Arsenović and soon afterwards it was owned by the goldsmith Antal Zimmerer and his wife Maria. The building got its present appearance from its new owner Petar Jakob, who reconstructed it in 1910, according to a design of the architect Istvan Barth and his father the master builder Jakob Barth. In 1921, it was bought by the Jewish merchant Lipot Goldschmidt, who already had a store of various fabrics and a tailoring workshop in it, which he founded in 1906.
