Karl Helmbold House

The residential and commercial was built in 1900 according to a design of Istvan Barth, who was an architect from . It was built for the German goldsmith of the Protestant faith, Karl Helmbold, and his wife Maria Barton. His father Leonard, also a goldsmith, bought a house in 1802 in Veliki Bečkerek, nowadays Zrenjanin, where his craft shop was housed. In a short period of time, he achieved remarkable results, but in 1860 at the age of 37, his rapid rise came to an end because of his early death due to lung failure as a result of tuberculosis. Karl Helmbold was born in 1849 and was only 11 years old at the time of his father's death. Apparently, he decided very early on to inherit his father's trade, of which he gained his first knowledge of goldsmithing by observing his work.

The Helmbold family was forced to sell the family house in 1869 to Ana Nak, who resold it to Katalin Jovanović the following year. In 1924, the house was bought by the famous stonecutter Teodosije Tuner and his wife Lujza Benz. The Tuner family has been making tombstones from marble and granite since the middle of the 19th century. In addition to stone cutting, they also worked in artistic stone works not only in Europe but also in Africa and China.

The building is built in the style of Art Nouveau and contains many Moorish elements. On top, you'll be able to see an ornament, which is adorned with a and foliage. The balcony, which is supported by four massive and secured with a wrought iron railing, is adorned with geometric forms and . The that enrich the building are crowned with a Romanesque , some of which are embellished with even more floral ornamentation.
