Lipot Mencer House

In 1891, the residential building was built according to a design of the architect Uršic. It was built by the rich pharmacist Lipot Mencer, who is the son of the founder and long-time president of Torontál Savings Bank, Mihalj Mencer. He graduated in pharmaceutical sciences in in 1867 and opened a pharmacy in his father's building on the main street. Besides being a pharmacist, the chief treasurer of Torontál County, a city official, and a great benefactor and patron of many local cultural, educational, and humanitarian associations, he was also involved in literature. His works, however, were not printed in the form of books but appeared in feuilletons of local Hungarian and German newspapers.
