János Stagelschmidt House

The residential building, which was built in 1904, was built for the merchant and industrialist János Stagelschmidt, who was born in 1844. He was the son of the famous merchant, brickyard owner, and city senator, Pál Stagelschmidt. He was first married to Bertha Schäffer, with whom he had five children, and after that to Ilona Heller, with whom he had three children. Together with his brother József, he owned a brick and tile factory, which he founded in 1890. The factory manufactured wall and paving bricks, roofs, and grooved tiles and consisted of 45 buildings and it employed 180 workers, half of whom were women. The luxurious townhouse was owned by the Stagelschmidt family until the end of the .

Since 1935, it housed the German Evangelical Christian Church and after the , confiscation was carried out when it became national property. A chapel at the Catholic Cemetery was built in 1893 in honor of the Holy Cross by the Stagelschmidt family and donated to the parish.

The most distinctive features of the building, which is built in the Eclectic with some Neo-Baroque elements, are the clover-shaped gables, which are adorned with decorative shells. The frieze underneath it, contains that support the gable above them. Above the windows and doors, you can admire a segmental , some of which are broken pediments. Within these broken parts, you'll be able to see a pretty unusual ornament, which is embellished with foliage, among other things.
