Villa Ahmet Kapandzi

The construction of the residential building, which was built according to the design of the Italian architect , started in 1893 and was completed in 1895. It was built by an order of the merchant Ahmet Kapandzi, who was already involved in trade and business from a young age, like the rest of his brothers Mehmet and Yusuf. It made him one of the most important economic factors in Thessaloniki at the beginning of the 20th century. In the period between 1907 and 1908, he was the mayor of Thessaloniki.

In the period between 1924 and 1934, the first floor was inhabited by his brother Mehmet and his family, and the second floor was occupied by the Spanish Consulate, while refugee families were accommodated on the third floor. In 1938, it all became state property, and in 1939, the Red Cross housed a nursing school in the building. During the German occupation of Greece, it was used by the . From 1947 to 1954, the building was the headquarters of the Red Cross, and from 1954 to 1973, NATO services were assigned to it. From 1973 to 1978, the first floor was used as a Red Cross warehouse, and the second and third floors were a nursing home.

After the of 1978, the building was left uninhabited for a long time. Between 1982 and 1985, the building was partially restored, and in 1997 the building was completely renovated. Until 2013, it housed the Organization for Regulation and Protection of the Environment in Thessaloniki, after which in 2014 it was sold to Ivan Savidis.

The building combines multiple architectural styles, including Eclectic, and Art Nouveau, as well as some Neo-Gothic and Arabic influences. The roof of the , which is placed on the northwestern corner of the building, is crowned with . The windows of the floor, which is located underneath the roof, are all flanked by that are crowned with a Composite . Some parts of the roof overhang, as well as the wooden and the balconies that are secured with a wooden railing, are all supported by wooden . The balconies that are located on top of the oriel window, as well as the two bay windows, are all secured with a railing that's lavishly decorated with . The oriel window is embellished with , while the bay windows are embellished with all sorts of Arabic elements.

One of the gables is decorated with a lovely and crowned with a . The arched part of the gable is richly decorated with a coat of arms and many stone blocks and fragments adorned with foliage. Above one of the first floor windows, you can admire a crowned with an Ionic capital, which contains a monogram with the Latin letters A.K., the initials of the former owner. The building is built up out of contrasting red bricks and white sandstone, of which the last-mentioned is decorated with .
