Salamon Brück House

The building permit for the construction of the four-story residential and commercial building was obtained on April 16, 1910, and its construction was completed in the summer of 1911. The construction of the building, which was executed according to a design of the Hungarian architect , was commissioned by the pharmacist Salamon Brück, who was born in the family of the butcher Simon Brück. The construction was supervised by the architect Arnold Merbl, who, in order to supervise the works, built a wooden shack in the area where he lived until their completion. The building was built on the site of the building from 1898 which was called the Golden Cross, which belonged to Stefan Geml, the brother of the mayor and historian .
Sandor Weisz and his wife Melanie
The pharmacy on the first floor was managed by Sandor Weisz, who was briefly replaced during his service in the . In 1936, his son Tibor Weisz, who in 1932 obtained a pharmacist diploma at the University of , started working in the pharmacy as well. Anti-Semitic measures began during the , which also affected the Weisz family. Like all Jewish men between the ages of 18 and 50, Tibor Weisz performed compulsory labor. He ended up in a labor detachment in , a city where all the Jews were massacred towards the end of 1941 and the beginning of 1942. Until 1944, the pharmacy was taken over by the state and was managed by Viorica Heyer, whose husband served in the army as a pharmacist captain. After August 23, 1944, the anti-Semitic measures were repealed, but the pharmacy was only returned to the Weisz family in April 1945.
Tibor Weisz
The majestic top gable of the asymmetrical building, which is built in the style of Art Nouveau, features, in addition to some , a fragment containing the initials B.S., as well as a and floral ornamentation. The building contains many and , of which the ones located in the top gable look at you like eyes. Under the of which the gable is part, you will see many , which in some cases decorated with squares. Above one of the third floor windows, you can admire some floral ornamentation, including foliage, and in its midst an ornamental owl, which symbolizes knowledge. The building contains a total of two balconies, which are secured with a cast iron railing, one of which is supported by a that contains a column that's crowned with an Ionic . The wooden oriel windows that are located on the second floor, are beautifully embellished with all sorts of floral and geometric motifs.
