Georg Dauerbach Palace

- Strada Doctor Nicolae Paulescu 1 -
The four-story building, which was built with commercial premises on the first floor and residential premises on the upper floors, was constructed on the former city fortifications. The construction permit was issued on July 12, 1911, and its construction was completed in 1912 by a design that came from the hand of the Hungarian architect . The construction was commissioned by Georg Dauerbach, and among its first inhabitants were doctor Emil Balázs, the lawyers Arthur Kun and Sándor Szántó, and the merchant József Schwarcz. The commercial first floor of the building was used by Olhausen and Kleman's spice and delicatessen shop and Birkenheuer Henrik's hairdresser, which operated here in the early years. The Palace Cafe, which was also located in the building, became one of the places most loved by the people of Timișoara. In fact, the resounding success of the cafe prompted Georg Dauerbach to purchase the right to use it from the former owner, Henrik Berger, in 1914.
