Hilt-Vogel Palace

- Piața Victoriei 6 -
The four-story building, which was built for residential and commercial purposes, was built in the period between 1912 and 1913. The design was created by the Hungarian architect for Hilt Lajos, who together with the company Vogel Antal & Colaboratorii, purchased a plot of land on which it was built. In October 1912, Lajos Hilt obtained a permit to install an elevator for people and one for goods, which was mainly used for coal. After the completion of the building, the first tenants moved in, which were the lawyer Doctor Mózes Endrei, and the widow Sarolta Schwarz. The commercial part of the building was occupied by Shell Gas, which opened on January 2, 1937, and the art salon, which opened in 1966 and was renamed Helios in 1977.

Lajos Hilt, former chief treasurer of Timiș County, was born in 1863. He stood out in the cultural, sporting, and political life of the city. He holds numerous public and private positions, including that of treasurer of the Hungarian History and Archeology Museum Association South. The history of the Regatta Rowing Club is also linked to his name, first as an athlete, then as a member of the administration, even becoming the president of the Regatta Association. He died in 1945, at the age of 83, being buried in the Heroes' cemetery in Timișoara.
