Zsigmond Ormós House

The two-story residential building, which was built somewhere at the end of the 19th century, belonged to Hungarian politician, writer, journalist, art historian, and art collector Zsigmond Ormós. He was born on February 20, 1813, in the small town of in the family of József Ormós and Anna Török. He began his studies at the elementary school in Pecica, and from there, when he was only nine years old, he continued his studies at the High School, where he studied for only one year. After that, he went to study at the Piarist High School in Timișoara, and after five years, he continued his student years with the Piarists. He returned to Timișoara in 1832 as a legal trainee, but in 1834 his county delegated him to as clerk.

Zsigmond also became a deputy in the parliament, but after the suppression of the , he was arrested and imprisoned in Timișoara. He received amnesty in 1850, left Hungary, and went into self-exile. For several years he studied art history, first in , later in Italy, Transylvania, Germany, and France, where he established his art collection. In 1866, he was elected deputy mayor of Temes County, and in 1871, he was elected chief mayor. Being a passionate collector of art objects, he founded the Society of Archeology and History of Southern Hungary, the core of the Banat Museum, but also of the Timișoara Art Museum. Zsigmond Ormós died on November 17, 1894, in Budapest, at the age of 81.

The asymmetrical building, which is built in the Neo-Gothic style, contains two top gables and a balustrade with Gothic motifs. The band that runs along the roof is lavishly decorated with floral ornamentation. One of the top gables contains a coat of arms surrounded by even more floral ornamentation, as well as two with underneath it either or . Within the other top gable, you can see a pointed featuring , and the part underneath it contains two . The above the other second floor windows, as well as the part underneath the small balcony, are also adorned with medallions. The balustrade of the balcony, as well as the curved bands that are placed above the first floor windows, are both adorned with multiple .
