Sliven is a city in Southeastern Bulgaria and is known as the City of the Hundred Voivodes, associated with the Hajdush movement. Remains of the oldest settlements on the territory of Sliven date back to around 6000 BCE of the Neolithic. Sliven was one of the largest industrial centers in Bulgaria, playing an important role during the Bulgarian National Revival. It has long-lived traditions in textiles, machine-building, glass-making, chemical production, and the technical and food industries.

Sliven features many buildings in the city that were built in the National Revival Architecture style, including the house of one of the most prominent Bulgarian voivodes and revolutionaries, Hadzhi Dimitar. You can also admire the ancient settlement of Tuida, which dates back to late antiquity, as well as the medieval fortified monastery of Saint Spas. The city also has some churches, theaters, and museums, one of which is the National Museum of Textile Industry telling about the rich history of the city that's connected with the textile industry.
