Blagoevgrad, formerly known as Gorna Dzhumaya, is Π° town in Southwestern Bulgaria, located in the valley of the Struma River at the foot of the Rila Mountains. The town was renamed Blagoevgrad in 1950, after the Bulgarian Workers' Social Democratic Party founder Dimitar Blagoev, who was an immigrant from Ottoman Macedonia.

A Bulgarian quarter called Varosha was formed during the Bulgarian National Revival, with many of its typical houses and the Church of the Presentation of the Mother of God from 1844. The Blagoevgrad Clock Tower is a famous landmark and one of the symbols of the city. Other sights that can be seen in the town are the Blagoevgrad History Museum, the Blagoevgrad Opera House, and the Georgi Izmirliev Historic House Museum.
