Salonta also known by the Hungarian name Nagyszalonta, is a city in Bihor County, in the geographical region of Crișana, northwestern Romania, near the Hungarian border. The city, a part of the Kingdom of Hungary, was first documented in 1214 under the name of Zolonta and in 1332 a Papal document used the name Zalanta. The Hungarian spelling Szalonta has been used since 1587.

The symbol of the Salonta municipality is the Ciunt Tower, which is part of the old fortress. The building has been restored and houses the first literary museum in Romania, the Arany Janos Memorial Museum. In addition to the Roman Catholic church and the Reformed Church, the Orthodox Church dedicated to The Ascension of the Lord can also be admired in the city.
