Silistra is a town in Northeastern Bulgaria, which lies on the southern bank of the lower Danube River. Silistra is the administrative center of the Silistra Province and one of the important towns of the historical region of Dobruja. The Romans built a fortress in AD 29 on the site of an earlier Thracian settlement and kept its name, Durostorum.

Silistra is home to the Roman Fortress Durostorum, Medjidi Tabiya Fortress, the Silistra Regional Historical Museum, and the Silistra Art Gallery, and in close proximity to the town, you can find the Srebarna Natural History Museum. In addition, you can also find the Roman Tomb Silistra, Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral, and Silistra Mosque in the town.
