Szeged is the third largest city of Hungary, the largest city and regional center of the Southern Great Plain, and the county seat of Csongrád-Csanád county. The center of the city is located on the right bank of the Tisza. Szeged and its area have been inhabited since ancient times and the oldest known name of the city is Partiscum.

The city features many landmarks and buildings built in different architectural styles, including Art Nouveau and Neo-Baroque. Among the landmarks are the Votive Church and Cathedral of Our Lady of Hungary, Saint Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, the Town Hall, and the Water Tower.
