Vidin is a port city on the southern bank of the Danube in northwestern Bulgaria. Vidin is an agricultural and trade center and has a fertile hinterland renowned for its wines. Vidin emerged at the place of an old Celtic settlement known as Dunonia, which evolved into a Roman fortified town called Bononia.

Vidin is known for having the second-largest Jewish temple in Bulgaria, which was built in 1894. The city is also home to the Osman Pazvantoglu Mosque, which is the only mosque in the world with a heart on top. There are also several Orthodox churches in the city, of which the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Dimitar is the largest. The city is also famous for its fortifications, including several ancient gates and defensive walls, as well as the Baba Vida Fortress.
